China's armed forces are getting ready to give their best performance during the National Day Military parade. Today, we get to know a group of 60 soldiers who will be there, but won't be marching.
While their comrades are marching, they'll be standing still. These soldier serve as signals to each formation, letting them know when to salute, parade step, and quick march.
The guards are selected from the guard of honor from the three armed services. On National Day, they'll be the first to arrive at Tian'anmen Square, and the last to leave.
And standing still is no easy task.
Liu Shixu, Chief Armed Services Guard of Honor, said, "Our training is very rigorous. We use strings or rulers to measure the position of our guns, arms, and brims of caps. We must achieve uniformity."
Each guard will at least stand three hours during the parade.
They can now stand six hours without moving.
Liu Shixu, Chief Armed Services Guard of Honor, said, "Our guards must possess the ability to stand for a long time span. Now, they can guarantee a six-hour stand under the burning sun, without any minor movement."
It's been a long, hard six months, and now these soldiers are ready for the review on October the first. |
