Ancient Painting, the world's first book implanted with a radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip was released in Beijing, marking the first successful application of IOT technology to China's publishing industry, China News Service reported Tuesday. IOT technology stands for the "Internet of Things," a self-configuring wireless network of sensors.
The RFID chip, which is usually used for identification and tracking radio waves, is incorporated into the book's spine to create a sole identification code for each one. This technology will help people read the book over a long distance.
According to ZenKee System, producer of the RFID chips, the publishing of "Ancient Painting" symbolizes the first step of IOT development in the book industry. With continuous applications of this technology, it will be used in other fields such as logistics, retailing, and digital rights supervision.
RFID chips have been used to produce the tickets for Shanghai World Expo and Beijing Olympic Games. |
