China Film Group Corporation and Romania-based Mandragora International will jointly produce Romanian director Bobby Paunescu's upcoming feature, marking the first film co-production between the two countries.
The film, currently titled "The Girl Knows Too Much," will be shot in various countries, including China, Italy, France and Romania. It tells the love story between the Chinese owner of a world-renowned fashion brand and a leading Romanian model.
The project will be written and directed by Paunescu, who co-produced the internationally-acclaimed Romanian dark comedy "The Death of Mr. Lazarescu." The film won numerous awards, including the Un Certain Regard Award at Cannes Film Festival in 2005.
According a statement released after Friday's agreement signing ceremony, the new feature project will start shooting in the later half of 2012.
"It was a great cultural connection between Romania and China from the 60s to 80s when a lot of Romanian films were shown in Chinese theaters and on TV. It's a pity that things didn't continue after the 90s," Paunescu said at Friday's ceremony.
Paunescu said the co-production project is expected to reestablish the cultural connection between China and Romania.
