Programme Introduction Hague Philharmonic Orchestra The year 2009 is the 105th birthday of the Hague Philharmonic Orchestra. Since its first concert held in 1904, the Orchestra has became one of the most important orchestras in Netherlands. Dr. Henry, founder of the Orchestra, was also its first principal conductor. Besides, the Orchestra has kept long-term partnership with many great composers, including Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinsky, Max Reger, Maurice Ravel, Paul Hindemith and Vincent D'Indy. In addition, it has invited Arturo Toscanini, Bruno Walter, Leonard Bernstein and Hans Knappertsbusch as guest conductors. In September 2005, Neeme Jarvi began to serve as the principal conductor of the Orchestra.
Conductor: Neeme Jarvi Not only being the Principal Conductor of the Hague Philharmonic Orchestra now, Mr. Neeme Jarvi also works as the Principal Conductor and Music Director of New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Honorary Music Director of Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Honorary Principal Conductor of Goteborg Symphony Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and Honorary Conductor of Royal Scottish National Orchestra. He has cooperated with many outstanding symphony orchestras, such as Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra, etc. He also has conducted operas with renowned opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera, Colon Theater in Buenos Aires, Paris Opera and San Francisco Opera.
