The "World Civil Defence Day" awareness campaign was held in Beijing Chaoyang Park on March 1. The activity, co-organized by the State Ministry of Civil Affairs, the State Civil Defense Office and Beijing Municipal Government, took "Join in Civil Defense for a Safer Life" as its theme in a bid to enhance public security awareness, and dissimilate disaster response knowledge and skills. Central Military Commission member, State Councilor and Defense Minister Liang Guanglie, Minister of Civil Affairs Li Xueju, and Mayor of Beijing Guo Jinlong attended and addressed the event. Also present were Secretary of Party Leadership Group and Director of Beijing Municipal Health Bureau Fang Laiying, as well as relevant leaders from Beijing Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Beijing Emergency Medical Center.

Advanced emergency rescue equipment provided by health, civil affairs, civil defense, firefighting, transport and municipal sectors in Beijing made their debut at the event. Chemical and biological testing vehicles, disinfection vehicles, emergency vehicles, large medical supply vehicles, communications & command vehicles and related equipment exhibited by Beijing Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Beijing Emergency Medical Center on behalf of Beijing Municipal Health Bureau lured the attention of participating leaders and the public.
