Part of the Retired Research Fellows and Staff of CASS Enjoyed a Tour of Tianjin city visiting the the ex-Soviet Aircraft Cruiser Kiev, the Great  Five Roads and the Tianjin Financial Street Real Estate CO. of TEDA (Tianjin Economical Technological Development Area).

The retirees rode in the multiple unit train at the speed of 325 km/hr and arrived in Tianjinin 30 minutes.

Tianjin is one of China's four municipalities directly under the Central Goverment, the biggest coastal open city in North China and the economic center in the Bohai Sea Region. It is also a famous Chinese historical and cultural city.

We stayed at an elegant middle-sized hotel. After lunch we set out for the Haihe Harbour to visit the Aircraft Carrier Theme Park. The heavy aircraft carrying cruiser Kiev served the Soviet and Russian navies from 1975 to 1993. It was built from 1970 till 1975 and was the first ship of its class or Kiev class.

After the disintegration of the USSR, the ship was taken by Russia.  Due to low military budget and worsening ship's condition, she was retired on 30 June 1993.  In 1996 she was sold to a Chinese company, and has been part of the military theme park in Tianjin since 1 May 2004. Our eyes widened in seeing the ship heavily equipped with missles and other modernized weapons.

The next day morning we had a tour by horse-drawn carriages around the Great Five Roads.

Foreign villas are assembled in Wudadao (Five Great Roads) District, which includes five main avenues of Machangdao, Munandao, Dalidao, Chongqingdao and Chengdudao. There are altogether 22 roads with a total length of 17 kilometers and an area of 1.28 square kilometers.

The last item of our visiting programme was to have a preliminary view of  TEDA, which provides the highest investment return. TEDA has become one of the best economic developing regions in China. In 10 years'resources reconstruction and "bond-up development", Tianjin Binhai new area not only became the window to show the biggest growth points of Tianjin economy and its new image as the model of opening-up policy, but also the head of the economic development area in northern China. The customer manager offered us a tour of several suites of the luxury rooms in the apartment mansion.
