Beijing Jiaotong University Young Volunteer Association Creates Audiobooks for the Blind

In northwest Beijing, where many universities are located, lots of volunteer associations are offering their services. I will talk about one of them, BJTU Young Volunteer Association, to see what they have accomplished.

SoundsBook
Without vision, blind people can sense and acquire limited information from audition only. In order to give them a colorful world, volunteers record their voice in MP3s, which they call SoundsBook, and give the CDs with the the MP3s to the blind people work in "Blind Massage" parlors. The volunteer have a book list including laws, Chinese Traditional Medicine, novels, prose and so on, to help blind people expand their view. Since June of 2008, the volunteers have recorded 200 hours in total, and 50 narration MP3s have been written to CDs. One of the volunteers, appraises what he has done, "We just do a small thing, though as small as it is, it can also do work to help the blind people feel others' care, which is the most strength power to them."

SoundsMovie
Another service for the blind people though people's voice is SoundsMovie, the volunteer retell a movie for the blind when showing movie. There is a popular song named "You are my eyes", the volunteers are the blind people's eyes to the extraordinary movie world. Three famous movies have been SoundsMovied so far: "The Road Home"directed by Zhang Yimou, "Roman Holiday"directed by William Wyler, and "The Pursuit of Happyness"directed by Gabriele Muccino. More than 20 blind people, and 30 senior citizens have attended this activity each time. A blind person who attended the activity said, "This activity gives them opportunities not only to watch movie but also to communicate with sighted people."
