China National Opera House
China National Opera House (CNOH), established in 1952, is a national theatre affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and one of the Asian opera theatres with the advantage of scale and credits. It now has an opera troupe, a chorus, a symphony orchestra and a department of stage design.

The opera troupe boasts many outstanding opera singers, most of whom have achieved prizes in domestic and international vocal competitions and are actively both at home and abroad. Most of the chorus members are eminent graduates from conservatories of China, and they have good musicianship and expressive voices. The chorus is an influential group in China, and the performance includes many famous Chinese and foreign operas and diversified vocal songs. The symphony orchestra, famous for its performance of opera music and full-length repertoires, is frequently seen in important performances home and abroad. The  Department of Stage Design not only designs the stages for regular operas and concerts, but also actively participates in the stage designs of important Chinese and foreign performances and large activities. Besides, the CNOH has a batch of famous composers, conductors, directors, playwrights and stage designers. The President of CNOH is Liu Xijin, a famous composer.

With the efforts of generations of artists over the past 50 years, the CNOH has premiered, introduced and reserved many classic operas in China. In the summer of 1988, on the invitation of Savonlinna Opera Festival, the CNOH presented Madama Butterfly, Carmen, Verdi's Requiem and Chinese music, and was well received by media. It also tours such countries and regions as Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao to interpret Chinese and Western operas, and is widely praised by the public. Since 1992, the Chorus and Symphony Orchestra have joined in the important performance of Macao International Music Festival in 10 successive years, and highly applauded by the Organizing Committee and audience. In 2008, the CNOH staged its original opera Farewell My Concubine in San Francisco, New York, and Washington D.C., the US, and received great attention and good comments from the American art circle and media.
