Programme Introduction

During the war to resist U.S. aggression and aid Korea, the "Yu Opera Queen" Chang Xiangyu chose Hua Mulan as main repertoire when she led her troupe giving special performances to collect money for the fighter plane named "Xiangyu Troupe". At that time Hua Mulan was performed with the purpose of inspiring Chinese people's patriotism. The aria in the renowned opera Hua Mulan is sometimes exquisite and gentle, displaying a sort of girlish shyness, and sometimes strong and unstrained, showing the vigor of a general before the battle. Such gentleness and strength coexists in harmony, which is the reason why Chang School's aria has been widely spread, and also the reason why Yu Opera is so popular among Chinese people.

Synopsis
During Northern Wei Dynasty, the border of Wei is invaded. Hua Mulan's father is included on the list of conscription. Considering that her father is old and her brother is still young, Hua Mulan decides to disguise herself as a man so as to take her father's place. The 12-year battlefield life of the General Hua Mulan ended with a great triumph and her story has been passed down generation by generation.
