Beijing Symphony Orchestra has a large number of musicians versed in arts and some of them are the national or international award-winning artists. Through its long-term continuous performances, the orchestra has grown into one of the most popular large music ensembles in China for its solid musicianship and rich repertoires it can offer.

The BSO gives regular concerts with a rich repertoire in its annual music season. In addition, the BSO has participated in major cultural exchanges on behalf of China and the capital as well as tour concerts throughout the country. From 2007 onward, the orchestra has released four records worldwide with the EMI, which is the first cooperation between EMI and a Chinese conductor and symphony orchestra. In July 2008, Beijing Symphony Orchestra completed the recording project of the games anthems and national anthems for the 29th Beijing Olympic Games, a project which includes 212 works. The recording has been unanimously acclaimed by the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympics Committee and its member states and regions. The orchestra is also the main figure of the Beijing New Year's Concert owing to its strength of its musicianship.

In every music season, the BSO organizes concerts of Chinese symphonies and various commissioned pieces in different styles and regional features. It makes continuous efforts as well to launch a variety of concerts with Chinese traditional operas and symphonies incorporated.
