Mentougou District, occupying an area of 1,331.3 square kilometers,is divided into 18 townships and five neighborhood committees with a population of 270,000. 96% of the district is a mountainous area with more than one hundred peaks. It is rich in coal,limestone,and granite reserves.  Major local agricultural products include roses,day lilies,wild jujubes,mushrooms and Beijing white pears.
