Haidian District, covering an area of 426 square kilometers, is divided into 17 neighborhood committees and 11 townships with a population of 1.44 million.  It is famous for its high-tech industry and institutions of higher learning.Haidian's rural area is one of Beijing's non-staple food production bases. The western mountainous area of Haidian is one of Beijing's famous fruit production areas.
