Resume of Chen Jining

Mr. Chen Jining, born in Lishu County Jilin Province, in February 1964, of the Han Nationality, joined the Communist Party of China in June 1984, and began his career in April 1998. He is a doctor of engineering, professor, and obtained his master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from the Imperial College London. He is currently Member of the 19th CPC Central Committee, Deputy of the Twelfth National People’s Congress, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, Mayor of Beijing Municipality, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, Executive President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympic and Paralympics Winter Games.

The previous leadership positions he held include:

Deputy Dean and Dean, at the Department of Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering, Tsinghua University;

Vice President, Executive Vice President (director-general level) and President (vice-ministerial level), Tsinghua University;

Minister and Secretary of the Party Leadership Group, Ministry of Environmental Protection;

Deputy Secretary of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee; Vice Mayor and Acting Mayor of Beijing Municipality; and Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality.

Mr. Chen Jining oversees the work of the municipal government, and is in charge of planning, auditing and institutional organization.
