On the afternoon of March 6, 2019, the Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) hosted 2019 International Women's Day Gathering for Chinese and Foreign Women at Beijing International Hotel. Ambassador of Angola to China Filomena Dos Sanios, Ambassador of Cape Verde to China Tania Romualdo, Ambassador of Grenada to China Dr. Abbie S. David, Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to China Baktygulova Kanaiym, wives of ambassadors of 10 countries (Algeria, Oman, Egypt, Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Qatar, Cote d'Ivoire, Georgia, Cuba, Senegal) to China, as well as diplomats and diplomats' wives at the embassies of 49 countries in China gathered with women representatives from all walks of life in Beijing, including Beijing's female municipal leaders, female leaders of relevant entities and mass organizations, representatives of women's committees of institutions directly under the CPC Central Committee in Beijing, representatives of women's committees of democratic parties and organizations, female deputies to the NPC, female members of the CPPCC, representatives of social female organizations, and representatives of national and municipal women pacesetters, to promote friendship, seek practical cooperation and celebrate the 109th international women's day.
Cai Shumin, Member of the Secretariat and the Party Leadership Group of the All-China Women's Federation, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Chairwoman of the BWF, extended the greetings of the holiday to Chinese and foreign women, and briefly reviewed the outcomes BWF has achieved in the past 70 years since its founding. In the past 70 years, with the unremitting efforts of BWF, Beijing has led the country in the level of women's participation in the administration and discussion of state affairs, the level of education and the level of woman and child health guarantee, women's role in family and social life has been enhanced, and the sense of gain, happiness and security of Beijing's women has improved significantly. According to Cai, 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the 70th anniversary of the founding of China's women federations, the opening year for the comprehensive implementation of the spirit of the 10th National Women's Congress of China, as well as the year when the 14th Beijing Municipal Women's Congress will be held. BWF has achieved outcomes in promoting international exchanges and cooperation, supporting women's social organizations, and promoting woman and child charity cooperation programs. With the aim of building Beijing into an international exchange center, BWF will respond to President Xi Jinping's initiative at the Global Summit of Women-"promoting the all-round development of women, co-building and sharing a wonderful world", endeavor to develop friendly association with women and women's organizations worldwide, implement the UN's theme for International Women's Day 2019-"Think Equal, Build Smart, Innovate for Change", push forward institutional innovation, speed up sustainable development and establish practical cooperation with female friends of all nations, create more opportunities and build a bright future.
Then amid a festive atmosphere, the representatives of Beijing Sport University (a member of the Capital Female Professors Association), the Beijing Women and Children's Development Foundation (BWCDF), the Beijing Female Artists Association, the Aiwuhen Burn Rehabilitation and Care Center, the Center for Chinese Ritual Studies, Tsinghua University and other organizations presented a spectacular performance to the Chinese and foreign guests. The performance opened with a "Belt and Road" country dance show featuring Silk Road style. Beijing Echo Kids Charity Development Center, which has focused on environmental publicity and education for women and children and presented environmental charity performances in Europe, organized lovely kids to present an English drama promoting the true, the good and the beautiful; Beijing HD Woman & Child Volunteer Service Promotion Center, which has participated in various charity performances and provided cultural and artistic services to the society and residents, presented a vivid child Ping Opera show named Flower Names; in a pipa (traditional Chinese musical instrument) show, the children supported by BWCDF's "Dream for Future" Program expressed their wish to change their life and chase dreams through the program; in the following programs including etiquette show, calligraphy & painting show and rhythmic gymnastics show, the Chinese and foreign guests experienced the unique charm of Chinese culture and the positive mental outlook of Beijing's women's social organizations. Abundance of Spring, a traditional Chinese painting done by Chinese and foreign representatives, pushed the performance to a climax.
Following the performance, the foreign guests and women from all walks of life in Beijing communicated with each other, established contacts, and visited a zone displaying Beijing's woman work to acquire full and deep knowledge of Beijing's public services for women and children, as well as the key charity programs of BWCDF. The Chinese and foreign guests, amazed by BWF's efforts in promoting the development of women and children, hoped to further integrate domestic and foreign quality resources and build broad consensus through the exchange and interaction platform, to contribute the power of women to the building of a community of shared future for mankind.
In China Women's Handicrafts Exhibition and Beijing Qiaoniang Interactive Experience Zone, guided by female artisans, the Chinese and foreign guests made characteristic Chinese knots, vivid paper cuttings and exquisite dough sculptures with relish, to experience the charm of Chinese traditional handicrafts.
