On the morning of October 1, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, delivered an important speech at the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China. "The country will stay on the path of peaceful development, and pursue a mutually beneficial strategy of opening up. We will continue to work with people from all countries to push for jointly building a community with a shared future for humanity," Xi said.

Among the mass pageantry squares at the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, one square perfectly demonstrated this great vision, namely, the "community with a shared future for humanity" square. The square consists of 1,935 Chinese, including citizens of Tongzhou District, students and teachers of University of International Business and Economics and Beijing Wuzi University, as well as 300 foreigners from 96 countries. It is the only square with foreigners.

Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality invited and organized 300 foreigners to participate in the "community with a shared future for humanity" square. They come from research institutes, state-owned enterprises, foreign enterprises and universities in Beijing. They represent peace-loving foreigners all over the world, as well as foreigners working, studying and living in Beijing.

Chinese and foreign youths in the square walked through Chang'an Avenue and Tian'anmen Square side by side. Waving bouquets in hands and crowding round float, they shouted "Happy Birthday, China!". Some foreigners do not speak standard mandarin, but we can still feel their genuineness and enthusiasm.

Foreigners' stories in China

1. The first "foreign department head" since the reform and opening-up

Sebastian Kraft, a German expert born in 1980s, is a member of the "community with a shared future for humanity" square. Sebastian, whose Chinese name is Dali, came to China in 2014 and is now General Manager of Assembly Planning of Beijing Benz Automotive Co., Ltd.

Sebastian came to the scene in the early hours of the morning for the day's celebrations. Walking through Tian'anmen Square made him feel very excited.

Sebastian Kraft:

The fact that foreigners can participate in the mass pageantry celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of New China reflects the integration of people from different countries. I appreciate it very much and am very excited! Participating in this mass pageantry is the proudest thing in my nearly five years in China.

I listened to President Xi Jinping’s speech on the spot, saw the uniform pace of Chinese soldiers at the military parade, and watched the float parades of various Chinese provinces...China is so amazing for its development!

I feel the friendship and mutual trust between Germany and China by participating in this mass pageantry. No country in today's world can prosper alone. It is hoped that China will further deepen reform and opening-up, keep in close contact with various countries and peoples around the world, and achieve a win-win situation.

3. The "Parade Second Generation" who inherits the mission of their parents

Thomas Alexander Lindesay, a British student at Peking University, is a "Parade Second Generation" who inherits the glorious mission of his parents. His father, William Lindesay, was affectionately known as the "foreign scavenger on the Great Wall". He won the Friendship Award from the State Council and the Beijing Great Wall Friendship Award, and he participated in the mass pageantry celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of New China ten years ago. Thomas Alexander Lindesay grew up in China and has a deep affection for China and the Great Wall. Influenced by his parents, he also took on the responsibility of spreading the Great Wall culture and protecting the Great Wall. He almost traveled all over the Great Wall, and made a documentary about the Great Wall with his brother, so that more foreigners can know and understand the Great Wall.

We are very honored to participate in the mass pageantry celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of New China. The day October 1, 2019 will be remembered for the rest of our lives. We are so lucky to be a member of the "community with a shared future for humanity" square. Together with people from all over the world, we gather in Beijing to celebrate China's birthday. Before the mass pageantry, soldiers and many weapons passed Chang'an Avenue. Seeing this magnificent scene, we cannot help but admire the strength of China.

5. Brothers on the spot

In addition to the sisters Bae Dan Bi and Bae Eun Bi, the brothers Sharobiddinov Mukhammad Bobur and Sharobiddinov Mukhammad Akbar from Uzbekistan are also members of the square. The elder brother Sharobiddinov Mukhammad Bobur has been in China for five years and the younger one Sharobiddinov Mukhammad Akbar has been in China for one year. Both are postgraduate students at China University of Political science and Law.

Sharobiddinov Mukhammad Bobur:

This is the first time for us to participate in such an activity in China. I didn't expect that this National Day celebration would be so wonderful. It is a little incredible. It is a rare opportunity to participate in this activity. There are so many overseas students who want to participate in this activity. However, they are not chosen due to limited number of places. My brother and I were so lucky to be able to participate in this activity. I hope I can live in China forever and I love China!

Happy Birthday, China!
