BOCOG pre-Games volunteers refer to persons recruited to participate in the routine or special activities of BOCOG and offer voluntary services to BOCOG at the preparatory stage of the Olympic Games.

1. Main Tasks

A certain number of volunteers from all circles of the society will be admitted to directly participate in the routine work of BOCOG. It is aimed at obtaining experience through the communications, recruitment, training, routine management, appraisal and encouragement work in the process of the pre-games volunteers project, and get prepared for the success of the Games-time volunteer work.

2. Sources of the Pre-Games Volunteers

The pre-Games volunteers for the Olympic Games are recruited from people from all circles of the society who abide by the Chinese laws and regulations, satisfy the requirements and criteria specified by BOCOG, possess the qualifications and abilities for the designated posts, being willing to offer voluntary services for BOCOG, and accept the leadership and management of BOCOG. University students and professional volunteers will constitute the majority of the pre-Games volunteers.

3. Recruitment, Training and Management of Pre-Games Volunteers

Pre-Games volunteers will be recruited directly by BOCOG or by entrusted institutions, according to the actual needs of BOCOG. BOCOG will organize generic training and related professional training courses according to the duties of the pre-Games volunteers, in order to give them a better knowledge of BOCOG, help them adapt themselves to the work environment and the posts, and bring their roles into full play.

The management of the pre-Games volunteers shall be a part of the BOCOG routine management system. Regular evaluation and assessment will be made on the performance of the volunteers, and appropriate citations and rewards will be given on this basis.

The pre-Games volunteer project was started in March 2004, and planed to be concluded at the beginning of August, 2008. BOCOG plans to select a number of pre-Games volunteers to be Games-time volunteers in light of the actual needs of BOCOG and their abilities and performance.
