At a meeting held by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and related organizations on Monday, 95 volunteers were lauded for their services at the International Softball Federation's XI Women's World Championship in Beijing from August 27 to September 5.
The event organizers recruited a total of 410 volunteers from Capital University of Economics and Business, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Tsinghua University, Communication University of China, Beijing Sport University, Capital Medical University, the Beijing Volunteers Society and Fengtai District of Beijing. Their assistance covered a total of 52 types of job in 18 areas, including spectator guiding, VIP service, security check and many others.
The volunteers braved summer heat, maintained full attendance and some of them worked as long as 14 hours a day. They helped each other in the spirit of cooperation and unity. Their careful services were praised by both the venue staff and beneficiaries.
Wang Wei, BOCOG executive vice-president and secretary-general told the meeting that the softball event was staged in compliance with the operational mode and task requirement of the Olympic Games. As an important component of the championship's working team, the volunteers fulfilled their duties and their performance was fully recognized.
The event organizers conferred on each of the 95 most excellent volunteers an honorary certificate.
