Yanhuang Art Museum

Located in the northeastern part of Beijing, Yanhuang Art Museum completed in 1991, occupies an area of 3.75 acres. With four stories in all (one is underground), the museum has a height of 20 metres. It is characterized by its distinctive colours, shapes and integration of various architectural make up. The funnel shaped roof incorporates and unifies modern life, traditional culture and various architectural characteristics from all over the country. The roof's function and contour suit the needs of both an art gallery and a museum.
In order to eliminate interference from reflective light, architects have designed special windowless walls. Under the sunshine, the purple roof appears solemn, while the walls and ground have the- elegant colour of granite. As a result, the different colors of the building form a sharp contrast to one another.
