Language

General introduction
Spoken by about 80 million people, Korean is one of the world`s major languages. It is the official language of both North and South Korea, and is the language of communication for many Koreans residing in China, Russia, Japan, the United States and many other countries.
Many linguists believe Korean to be a member of the Altaic language group, a broad family of languages comprising such tongues as Mongolian, Turkish and possibly Japanese. It has a unique writing system, Hangeul, which is widely praised for its ingenuity in representing the sounds of the Korean language and for its ease in learning. Koreans don`t expect tourists to become fluent in their language, but learning a few common phrases goes a long way in making your stay as enjoyable as possible.
