Mayor for City Planning and Real Estate
Pekka Korpinen

Pekka Korpinen is a Mayor for City Planning and Real Estate and Doctor of Sciences (economics). He has studied in the Universities of Helsinki, Stockholm and Cambridge and worked in Helsinki, Washington D.C. and Windhoek. He made a career in economics in the Bank of Finland, Labour Institute for Economic Research and at the World Bank where he serviced as Executive Director. He has been also Cabinet Secretary in Finland.

Last 15 years Pekka Korpinen has been in charge of city planning and real estate in Helsinki. During this time two inner city harbours are in the process of being relocated with releasing of some 250 hectares of waterfront for new developments. He has also been instrumental for the construction of new city centre for Helsinki around the Railway Station and Central Bus Station. He is Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts. He has published on economics, city planning and fine arts.
