I took the opportunity to see the old neighborhoods around Wangfujing. My friend Wang ShuSen told me about the view from the roof of the HuaQao hotel. The hotel is an old style hotel from the early revolutionary period, and is the tallest building in an otherwise single-storey neighborhood. Nearby there are stretches of old hutong streets and low buildings from centuries ago. The hotel itself is painted in traditional red and green colors, with ornamental trim that you can see in the roof and tiles.
