Occupying an area of 34,000 m2 with a floor area of 29,000 m2, Beijing Ditan Hospital holds 500 beds therein. As a 3A hospital affiliated to the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau, it serves as a designated unit for medical insurance services. The Beijing Research Center for Prevention and Treatment of Viral Infectious Diseases and the Beijing AIDS Clinical Research Center are set in Beijing Ditan Hospital, which makes the hospital a "National Base for Clinical Trials of Pharmaceutical Products" in Virus Hepatitis and AIDS. The hospital has been playing a dual role: to support clinical teaching and postgraduate education for Medical College of Peking University, as well as to take up the further education for doctors and nurses for infectious diseases. The hospital was reorganized in 1998 and has been operated jointly by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (former Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine) and the Beijing Municipal Health Bureau ever since. At present, Mao Yu serves as hospital director, Xiang Xiaopei, Guo Lizhu and Cheng Jun as vice directors; Teng Xiuqin serves as sectary of the Party Committee of the hospital, Gao Mingxiu as the deputy sectary.
