Author Synopsis : 

Man Jianmin entered Beijing Carved Lacquer-Ware Factory in 1962 and learned carving techniques from the masters Liu Jinbo and Du Bingchen.

Man is famous for his mastery in carving landscapes and animals. He has made striking breakthroughs in high relief, sculpture-in-the-round and hollowed-out techniques in carving flowers, birds and animals. He has gradually developed his own unique style.

His works often emanate artistic elements of traditional Chinese paintings, and many have become rare collector items for their delicate and exquisite carving skill.

His work "Sea Animals" won a prize for excellent creations at the Hong Kong Fine Arts and Crafts Exhibition in 1989. Other works, "Squirrel and Grape Plate" and "Generations of Calabash Plate" won the Golden Cup for rare pieces and the national Hundred-Flower Awards for Excellent Arts and Crafts in 1989 and 1990 respectively.
