Pavilion-Shaped Lantern on a Phoenix Carriage (Jingtailan)

Author Synopsis : 
Zhang Tonglu entered the BeijingJingtailanFactory in 1958. and graduated from the Beijing Arts and Crafts School in 1962.

Zhang has developedJingtailantechniques, and is an expert in the design and management ofJingtailanproduction. He applies essential elements of fine arts and other arts and crafts in his design and creation, and has established his own unique style. His works are original in conception, harmonious in coloring, and classical yet modern in spirit. Many of his works have won prizes at home and abroad. Zhang combined modern technology with graditional techniques to develop a new type of work called "Enamel," which received a national patent. He has blazed nwe paths and innovatedJingtailanwith a silver base and otherJingtailanworks by using filigree, jade carving, ivory carving and lacquer technique.

His works "lotus and Animal Vase" and "Thousand-Year Lantern" won the nation Hundred-Flower Awards for Exxcellent Arts and Crafts` Golden Cup for rare pieces in 1981 and the first prize for outsanding designs in 1986.

His work "Huabian Secented Sac" and "Guest from Afar" won Silver medal and Gold medal at the Forst and the Second Chinese Arts and Crafts Fair of the 2000 and 2001 China Hangzhou West Lake Expo.

His works "The great Wall Vase" won gold medal at the Third Chinese arts and Crafts Fair of the 2002 China Hangzhou West Lake Expo.
