Beijing Subway Introduction

The Beijing Subway (simplified Chinese: 北京地铁; traditional Chinese: 北京地鐵; pinyin: Beijing ditie is an extensive underground rail system in Beijing. Presently, Subway Lines 1, 2, 4, 5, 8 (Beitucheng - South Gate of Forest Park), 10 (Bagou - Jinsong), 13, the Airport Express and the Batong Line are in service.

Subway Line 1

Beijing Subway Line 1 runs from Pingguoyuan in the west through to Sihui in the east. It is colored standard red. It runs beneath Chang'an Avenue and through the Xidan, Wangfujing and Dongdan commercial districts.

Hours of Operation

The first trains departs from Guchenglu at 4:58am and Pingguoyuan at 5:10am. The first train departs Sihui at 4:56am and Sihui East at 5:05am. The last train leaves Pingguoyuan at 10:55pm; the last train leaves Sihui East at 11:15pm.

Route

Subway Line 1 follows Chang'an Avenue. The line passes through Xidan, Wangfujing and Dongdan and other commercial centers of Xicheng and Dongcheng Districts, as well as the Beijing CBD near the China World Trade Center.

Subway Line 2

Beijing Subway Line 2 is colored navy blue. The line services areas central to Beijing, including all areas adjacent to the 2nd Ring Road as well as Chongwenmen East Street, Qianmen East Street, Qianmen West Street, Xuanwumen East Street and Xuanwumen West Street.

Subway Line 4

Beijing Subway Line 4 opened on September 28, 2009. It is colored teal.

Hours of Operation

Route

Line 4 passes through Summer Palace, Yuanmingyuan, Tsinghua and Peking Universities, Zhongguancun North Street and Zhongguancun Street, National Library, Beijing Zoo and some commercial areas, like Xizhimen, Xinjiekou, Xidan and Xuanwumen.

Subway Line 5

Beijing Subway Line 5 is the first north-south Subway line in the city and is colored purple. It links up with Subway Lines 1, 2, 10 and 13, and will link up with Lines 6, 7, 14, 15 and the Yizhuang Line. Trains on Subway Line 5 run with gaps as short as 3 minutes between trains.

Route

Line 5 is mainly a residential-and-tourist line. It links Tiantongyuan residential community and Fangzhuang-Puhuangyu residential community,Hepingli residential community. It also arrives at Yonghegong Lama Temple, the east gate of Temple of Heaven.

Subway Line 10

Beijing Subway Line 10 is colored aqua. Half of the line (from Bagou via Beitucheng and Sanyuanqiao through to Jinsong) is already complete and is now in operation.

Route

Line 10 runs mainly through residential and office areas (especially Zhongguancun and the CBD). Line 10 links to Bus Rapid Transit Line 2 (Chaoyang Road BRT) at Jintaixizhao station (exit B) and Bus Rapid Transit Line 3 (Anli Road BRT) at Anzhenmen station.

Batong Line

Beijing Subway Batong Line extends Line 1 from Sihui through to Tuqiao, extending subway services to Tongzhou District, almost nearing the eastern 6th Ring Road. It is colored standard red.

Subway Line 8

Beijing Subway Line 8 also known as the Olympic Branch Line (Phase 1 only). It is a four-stop line through the Olympic Green and colored Standard Green. Two extensions are scheduled to be opened in 2010 and 2012.

Subway Line 13

Beijing Subway Line 13 runs from Dongzhimen via Lishuiqiao and Huoying through to Xizhimen, passing through much of northern Beijing on its route. It is colored standard yellow.

Airport Express

Beijing Subway Airport Express line (ABC) opened on July 19, 2008 and links central Beijing with the airport. It is colored faint, dark purple.

Fare: RMB 25.
The Airport Express does not use the city network's CNY 2 fare system for unlimited mileage.

Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal 3: 06:21- 22:51
Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal 2: 06:35 -23:10
Service intervals are 15 minutes to start with and the entire trip takes around 16 minutes from Terminal 3 or 25 minutes from Terminal 2.

Route

The line runs from Central Beijing -- Dongzhimen (interchange with Lines 2 and 13) and Sanyuanqiao (interchange with Line 10 to Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal 3 and Terminal 2; passengers for Terminal 1 need to use the transfer passageway at Terminal 2.
