Tang Dynasty

The Tang Dynasty witnessed the prosperity of  the Chinese feudal society with prosperous economy and advanced culture. The impact of metaphysics on the Confucian orthodox view of li (propriety) and yue (music) during the Jin dynasties and the Northern and Southern dynasties as well as bravery and emphasis on military affairs of the northern ethnic group s laid a foundation for the prosperous development of sports in the Sui and Tang dynasties. The rich and various contents and forms of sport activities in the Tang dynasty exhibited the spirit of continuous exploration and incessant renovation. The great exchanges between different ethnic groups and communication between the east and the west poured fresh blood in sports of that period, presenting a brilliant and flourishing situation. Particularly, the social tendency of this period was open, which allowed the development of women sports. With frequent exchanges with foreign countries, traditional sports spread abroad. The proseprous and powerful Tang dynasty initiated the golden age of ancient sports and displayed the highly advanced culture of the Chinese nation.
