The name Hong Kong derived from the Xiangjiang River, which runs between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. With a total land area of 1,110 square kilometers, Hong Kong consists of Gangdao, Jiulong, Xinjie and more than 260 offshore islands. Standing on the coast of southern China, Hong Kong lies in the east of the mouth of the Pearl River, having Macao in the west and Shenzhen in the north. The continental part of Hong Kong borders with Guangdong Province and is 200 kilometers away from the city of Guangzhou. The southern part stretches into the South China Sea.
