| Beijing's Oldest Brand Already 475 Years Old |
Believe it or not! Beijing's oldest brand is at least 475 years old.
Song Zhaolin, a renowned folklore expert, discovered entries in title deeds and account books which prove that Beijing's famous food producer, "Liubiju", was in business at least 475 years ago.
"Originally Liubiju was opened by a Mr. Guo. But as business wasn't good, Guo sold the store to a family surnamed Zhao. That was in the 9th year of the reign of Emperor Jiajing during the Ming Dynasty. It's exactly 475 years from now."
With this discovery, Liubiju becomes the brand with the longest history in Beijing. And it's been selling pickles right from the start. But, although their products are unchanged, the way they make them is right up to date.
After touring Liubiju's factory , one customer had this to say.
"When I imagine a place for pickling vegetables, its like a big shed, with many pickling crocks stored there. But here everything is modern. Modern science is being applied to ensure the quality of the products."
With the help of new technology, Beijing's oldest brand has transformed itself from a small family workshop to a major manufacturer with annual sales amounting to 150 million yuan.
