Hot Springs in Beijing
Things you don't expect in Beijing but hot springs have a long history, which can be dated back to 1,700 years ago. In the early Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), an "official bath" and a "civilian bath" were built.
As times have changed and people's living pace quickened, the traditional hot spring culture has been forgotten. Young people are not aware of the hot spring tradition and few ever visit the hot springs.
But hot springs are coming back because heated water can hold more dissolved solids than cold water, warm and especially hot springs often have very high mineral content, containing everything from simple calcium to lithium, and even radium and therefore have therapeutic use.
But is also very nice to pass some cozy time during the cold of winter? Hot springs are wonderful choice for feeling a bit of warmth and comfort during Beijing’s notoriously cold winters. Have some time out and relax yourself in warm water to ward off the cold winter.
