I was filled with admiration watching the Arabian candidate displaying his eloquence of Chinese language. I described to George the show process as to how he won the title Mandarin Star in the final. I don't know his name in English. The TV anchor addressed to him by his Chinese name A Er Ma. George agreeably gave me a reply. George was an experienced teacher in Minnesota. -----------------------------------------
George, The winner of the title "Mandarin Star" in the competition was an amazing Arabian approximately at the age of 30 years old. He spoke excellent Chinese (better than any other foreign language expert I have ever seen). He was wise and farsighted in picking up the faults with the words deliberately committed by the anchor in her chat with him. I think he is of Arabian noble class as he expressed thanks to the audience in Arabian handsome carriage. It was a real treat to see that he was cool, retained composure and presence of mind on the stage in front of the TV viewers of the world. Very difficult. Yun-kun, I think that way of you. I can't believe how well you can speak English. One has to be very "bright" to grasp the rudiments of a foreign language. I, as a child, spoke only German, but that was on a child's level. I changed over to all English at about the age of 12 years. Today, I understand little of the German language. I know that your command of the English language is better than that of many Americans. George

Wang Laoshi,
Yes, George is right. You are an excellent example of someone who not only has the gift for language but of one who constantly seeks to improve his skill with hard work and determination. Valuing the language of a culture is the culture. John also exemplifies this in his focus on Spanish and now on Italian. People are surprised at his fluency.
