On Natioal Day military parade the PLA Air Force fully showed the strength of J-10 fighters, early warning aircraft, unmanned aircraft and satellite communication.
For years the PLA Air Force has been equipped with the new generation of Jian-10 fighter, independently designed by China. The fighter is capable of launching "precision attacks while hedgehopping and making long-distance assaults at altitude above 10,000 metres."
Specifically the J-10 (Fighter aircraft 10) is a multi-role single-engine and single-seat tactical fighter, with its combat radius of 1,000 km. It is designed for point defensive warfare with performance generatlly matching aircraft such as the Mirage 2000 deployed by Taiwan.
The J-10 features a delta wing canard configuration which ensures aircraft stability with widened static stability active control technology. The deep burial of the engine and the extensive use of composite materials for wing-fuselage fusion design reduces the aircraft's radar signature. This aircraft uses control-figured vehicle design and nine independent control planes: two forward wings, two forward wing flaps, two inside elevons, two outside elevons, and one vertical rud.
On National Day the largest helicopter group in the parade history of the world was led by a major general. On October 1, the helicopter group flew over the Tian An Men Square. The participating aircrafts formed different formations in the air during the parade. The J-10 fighter formation also acted as leader of the air echelons.
People saw that in addition to the main force in the air the PLA Air Force has developped its capabilities in new areas such as the aerial refuelling tanker aircraft, airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft, airborne electronic warfare/countermeasures (EW/ECM) aircraft, long-range transport aircraft, advanced training aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
